Dental

Johnson Matthey Refining and Recycling accepts any form of dental materials and scrap containing precious metals.

Platinum and to a much greater extent palladium are the principal platinum group metals used in dental restorations. The metals are usually mixed with gold or silver as well as copper and zinc in varying ratios to produce alloys suitable for dental inlays, crowns and bridges. Small amounts of ruthenium or iridium are sometimes added.

The most common application is in crowns, where the alloy forms the core onto which porcelain is bonded to build up an artificial tooth. The aim of using platinum group metals in dental alloys is to provide strength, stiffness and durability whilst the other alloyed metals provide malleability.

Dental scrap we accept are crowns and alloy scrap, and also lower grade sources such as floor sweeps, grindings or other residues. Our sampling and refining facilities offer the highest standards and experience in evaluation, analysis, customer support and metal return to you.

If you have any questions or comments, or of you would like to discuss a refining quote, please use our contact form and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
